Comms company boss is cellphone-free

Private Bin was surprised to learn that TeamTalk MD David Ware does not own a mobile.

Afterall, his company - which owns Wellington’s highly-regarded CityLink fibre network and sells digital radio gear - is rather heavily invested in the communications business.

“I used to have a cellphone years ago but I find I’m more productive without it,” Mr Ware told Private Bin.

“I organise meetings and people just turn up. It forces a little bit of discipline.”

Does he own a pager?

Nope.

TeamTalk profit up, outlook depends on govt plans

Communications company TeamTalk has reported a net profit after tax of $1.98 million in the six months to December 31, up 38% on the same period last year.

Operating revenue fell 2.2% to $15.2 million. The company will pay an interim dividend of 10c a share on April 16.

"Both CityLink and TeamTalk's mobile radio division experienced unprecedented churn as customers either downsized their businesses or, in some unfortunate instances, went out of business altogether," the company said.

TeamTalks takes control of Crown fibre contender CityLink

TeamTalk - one of the few companies to openingly declare its interest in the government’s $1.5b ultrafast broadband project - has moved to take full control of Wellington fibre network operator CityLink.

A deal announced to the NZX this morning will a group of CityLink Holdings insiders give up its 10% stake in CityLink in return for 386,598 TeamTalk shares (worth just under $900,000) and a one-year option to purchase a further 386,598 TeamTalk shares at $2.24.

TeamTalk rolls out secure network

TeamTalk said today it was rolling out a secure internet-based network in Christchurch for businesses wanting higher communications security.

The P25 technology would allow organisations to communicate privately and ensure calls and data were encrypted during an emergency.

Teamtalk managing director David Ware said he could see the service being of use for emergency services, government agencies, and private organisations like high-end security companies, energy retailers and port companies .
