TeamTalk profit, revenue dip

Digital radio network and fibre operator TeamTalk saw net profit decline 3.3% decline to $3.83 million (or 18.25 cents per share) for its 2010 financial year, ended June 30.

Ebit fell 7.6% to $5.29 million (with mobile radio contributing $2.98 million, and fibre broadband opertions $3.60 million).

Revenue was down 2.1% to $30.6 million, of which mobile radio accounted for $17.8 million; fibre  $12.7 million.

The full year dividend was 10 cents per share.

Regional Fibre Group gets chief executive

The Regional Fibre Group (RFG) has appointed a fulltime chief executive to marshall its members' various Crown fibre bids.

He is Vaughan Baker (pictured; not to be mistaken for broadcaster John Campbell) who has worked on a number of large scale telecommunications projects for organisations including Fonterra and IAG.

Comms company boss is cellphone-free

Private Bin was surprised to learn that TeamTalk MD David Ware does not own a mobile.

Afterall, his company - which owns Wellington’s highly-regarded CityLink fibre network and sells digital radio gear - is rather heavily invested in the communications business.

“I used to have a cellphone years ago but I find I’m more productive without it,” Mr Ware told Private Bin.

“I organise meetings and people just turn up. It forces a little bit of discipline.”

Does he own a pager?

TeamTalks takes control of Crown fibre contender CityLink

TeamTalk - one of the few companies to openingly declare its interest in the government’s $1.5b ultrafast broadband project - has moved to take full control of Wellington fibre network operator CityLink.

A deal announced to the NZX this morning will a group of CityLink Holdings insiders give up its 10% stake in CityLink in return for 386,598 TeamTalk shares (worth just under $900,000) and a one-year option to purchase a further 386,598 TeamTalk shares at $2.24.
