Russian minister of foreign affairs Sergey Lavrov will arrive in Auckland on Monday for a two day visit to New Zealand, Foreign Minister Murray McCully says.
While in New Zealand, Mr Lavrov will have a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister John Key and Murray McCully.
“We have completed three rounds of Free Trade Agreement negotiations and a number of other bilateral initiatives are currently in the pipeline,” Mr McCully says.
The two foreign ministers will sign a consultations plan to formalise increased cooperation between New Zealand and Russian foreign ministries over the next two years.
Mr Lavrov will also meet with Labour leader David Shearer as well as Russian community leaders and business people.

"Free Trade" is not Free and has nothing to do about Trade. All it is is offshoring middle class productivity to end the middle class.
Closer relations with Russia would be great for New Zealand. Hope John Key will do all he can to foster that.
We would do well to consider supporting Russia in her foreign policy initiatives which are moderate and peaceful, in stark contrast to the warmongering emnating from the leaders of the USA
