Les Mills to open Britomart branch

Gym chain Les Mills has signed a twenty year lease for its new branch at downtown Auckland’s Britomart precinct, due to be open by April next year.

Located at the old Oriental Markets site, the 2000sq m gym will be the chain’s second central city outlet in addition to its flagship Victoria St facilities.

Billed as a “luxury fitness club”, the gym will open at the same time as the nearby East Complex tenanted by Southern Cross Medical Care Society, Westpac and Ernst & Young in April 2011. By that time 3500 people will be working in Britomart.

“Britomart is an excellent location for our newest club and completes the first step in our growth strategy. Auckland is a dynamic and exciting city and the central city has been an area of interest for us for many years – we just needed the right site,” Les Mills chief executive Reece Zondag said.

“Our Britomart facility will be a luxury concept club with a stunning interior fitout as well as all the latest fitness technology and equipment. And there’ll be plenty of convenient parking in the same building for members while they work out.”

The building will have 1250 car parks. A 700sq m retail space is also situated in the building, which Britomart is marketing for a health and fitness related tenant.

In December NBR reported that Les Mills had purchased a Khyber Pass property which it intended to develop into another fitness club branch.

Architects Warren & Mahoney are designing plans for that facility, and no opening date has been set.

How can we celebrate installation of 1,250 carparks right next to our premier transportation hub? This is a reflection of the failure of transportation planning in Auckland. Keep adding destination-end parking, and we can be sure that traffic congestion will continue to grow. When is someone going to 'get' this?

t'is a very good point. and that gym is supposed to be fighting excesses like. I think they'd be responsive if you took the matter to them directly.

uhhm, because public transport sucks?

I hope their cleaners are better than the cleaners they use in their other gyms.

Their other gyms are stinky.

Let's also hope they ban "naked guy" from parading around the changing rooms before he stands naked in front of the blow driers and blow dries his chest hair.

You drive there to exercise, you don't do it on the way. Duh.

Great news! Hopefully it will take some of the strain off the already over-packed City branch

Les Mills is pleased to be able to develop a fantastic new gym, as we’ve recently done in Christchurch, right in the city centre. We’d much rather you walked, biked or jogged to and from the gym than drove your car, but some people still need to commute into town that way. As we did in Christchurch, we’ve deliberately chosen a site close to good public transport links – in this case Britomart – to encourage people to visit the gym on the way to or from work, or at lunchtime and make it part of their working day, thereby not having to make a special trip by car. Please note that the new car parks are to serve everyone in the new development, not just the gym, and Les Mills will continue to encourage less car use and more public transport or foot or pedal power. The recently purchased site at Khyber Pass Road has a bus stop right outside and a train station across the road. All good stuff.

I suppose every fitness club has their fair share of naked hair dryer people! C'mon, use a towel people... haha. I've always found Les Mills to be an awesome place to workout, such great energy and positivity - the club always seems clean when I workout there? I love the classes, they're excellent!

I go to bodytech and we have our own naked guy weirdo who shows up in the morning - wonder if its the same one? Makes the changing rooms a very uncomfortable place - something should be done about those guys.

What kind of world do we live in when nobody will tell "naked guy weirdo" to stop being a naked guy weirdo?

Looking forward to the new gym.

Sorry cant control Naked Men.. especially hairy ones, do you feel threatened

Well I hope the hairy naked man [finger down throat] has a name and everyone including the instructor uses it! Cause from my experience instructor's forget to use some peoples name's. Especially mine like I'm invisiable after 6 yrs you would think they would make an effort?

I am the hairy naked guy

L'ensemble des Generators is actually happy in order to be able to develop the great brand new Turbo fire fitness center, as we’ve recently carried out within Christchurch, right in the city center. We’d a lot rather a person walked, biked or jogged in order to as well as through the gym than drove your car, however, many people nonetheless need to commute in to city that way. As we did within Christchurch, we’ve intentionally selected the site near to great trains and buses hyperlinks -- in this case Britomart -- to inspire individuals to visit the gym around the method to or through function, or even from lunchtime as well as make it component of the operating day, thus not having to create a special trip through automobile. Make sure you be aware the brand new automobile recreational areas will be to serve everyone within the brand new advancement, not just the gym, and Les Generators will carry on to encourage much less car make use of and much more public transport or even feet or even your pedal power. The actual lately bought website at Khyber Pass Street has a bus stop correct outside and a stop over the street. All good things.
